Conditions Treated
Headaches
Tension headaches are very common and are caused by stress-induced stiffness of the neck muscles and joints. Too much worry and sitting all day can tense up neck and shoulder muscles, leading to tension headache. Medication gives temporary relief but is never a permanent solution. I will treat your headache by diagnosing and correcting the cause instead of just easing the pain.
Neck pain & stiffness
We live in an era where increasing amounts of time is spent sitting, be it at the office, whilst driving, or in front of the TV, causing "Postural Strain". Most of us are unaware of sitting properly for spinal comfort, and bad chairs and desks at work are part of the problem. We will talk ergonomics and explain what you can do to alleviate future neck pain. We'll also talk about stress and stress management. How many of us sleep with tensed shoulders only to feel it the next morning? After a proper examination, effective treatment and ergonomic advice you'll no longer have a pain in the neck!
Whiplash
You may think the whiplash from an accident or sports game is gone when it returns suddenly weeks later. If you have been diagnosed with whiplash, or suspect you have it, make an appointment so we can assess the situation properly and treat you immediately. If you experience neck pain and stiffness or headaches, call us! When left untreated, whiplash often leads to early spinal degeneration.
Low back pain and stiffness
Low back pain does not simply “go away”- without addressing the root cause, pain persists, and the mechanical problem deteriorates. Symptoms include: Persistent stiffness or aching in the spine and back muscles. A sharp pain during strenuous activities like sport and lifting heavy objects and backache after sitting or standing for long periods of time.
Recent studies have shown that by correcting the mechanical cause of low back pain, chiropractic treatment provides faster results and is more cost effective than other health disciplines. Back problems are the most common physical complaints among adults. Contact us
Sciatica
Sciatica is pain from the lower back through the buttock down the back of the thigh and leg often to the foot. The pain down the leg may be sharp and shooting, or dull and achy. The pain can come and go, and is usually only on one side. In some cases there is also numbness, tingling, burning cramping and weakness in the leg. If you have poor posture, are pregnant, overweight or have spinal arthritis, you are more likely to get Sciatica. This is a problem that could get serious if left untreated. Make an appointment so that I can assess you thoroughly and treat you effectively.
Slipped discs & pinched nerves
Your spine takes a daily pounding with everyday activities. Discs are the shock absorbers of the spine that provide cushioning and flexibility. Disc damage often occurs when people lift excessively heavy objects, thereby "overloading" the discs. Under excessive force, a disc may bulge or herniate, causing extreme pain, muscle spasm, and irritation to the spinal nerves. If you are elderly, disc degeneration is more common due to progressive wear-&-tear over the years. I find that safe, gentle and effective Chiropractic treatment and management of disc problems begins with proper orthopedic and neurological tests, x-rays and MRI scans when necessary.
Sports injuries - Joint sprains and muscle strains
Trauma to the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints often occurs during sport. Some of these injuries may lead to chronic longstanding problems. Early treatment and proper rehabilitation are essential. Commonly treated sports injuries include shoulder, knee and ankle sprains, tennis elbow, hamstring and calf muscle strain, and whiplash, to name a few... I frequently see 2 types of sports people: the weekend warriors who want quick fix pain relief, and the elite level athletes who need to be properly treated and properly maintained. I have fun working with all types of sports junkies!
Pregnancy related back pain
For most future moms the word pregnancy is synonymous with back pain. Over 70% of all pregnant moms have back pain and / or sciatica during their pregnancy. This is due to a change in alignment, as well as extra weight that the spine and back muscles are subjected to during pregnancy is usually the cause of back pain and radiating leg pain, known as sciatica. Because it affects the leg, some women notice difficulty walking or standing. Chiropractic during pregnancy is safe, gentle and effective, with proven results! Let us start your chiropractic care early so that you have a comfortable pregnancy.
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a progressive curvature of the spine. People with scoliosis have distinct C or S shaped curvature of the spine. Chiropractors are involved in assessing, diagnosing and managing or arresting the progress of scoliosis and preventing painful secondary problems like muscle spasm, muscle weakness, disc and arthritic problems. I often take XRays not only for the correct diagnosis of scoliosis, but also for accurate corrective adjustments, as well as individualised back strengthening exercises.
Arthritis
Arthritis generally describes joint degeneration. If the structure of a joint is not right then it can’t work as it was designed. Chiropractic really shines in maximizing the function of an arthritic joint. Our goal is to improve patients’ function so they can have better quality of life. Treatment also involves supplementation to maintain joint health, as well as specific rehab exercises to maintain range of movement and flexibility.
